An ambulance that was reportedly stolen by a patient Sunday night in Detroit has been recovered, according to authorities.

Detroit police said the incident started in the 19000 block of Prevost around 10:15 p.m., with EMS responding to what was believed to be an overdose.

Police said medics found an unresponsive 25-year-old man and placed him in the ambulance.

During transport to the hospital, police said, the man woke up and was disoriented. The EMS driver stopped the ambulance and went to assist his partner, as the man “continued to be combative.”

When the medics exited the ambulance, police said, the man got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and fled.

A scout car stopped the ambulance at Woodmont and Plymouth a short time later, police said, and the man was taken into custody and brought to a hospital.
