Someone stole an ambulance in Lincoln Parish then wrecked it along Interstate 20 in neighboring Bienville Parish.
Now a Texas man is being booked into the Bienville Parish Jail in Arcadia.
His name has not yet been released.
The vehicle was taken Sunday evening from outside a hospital emergency room in Ruston.
At the time, Ruston Fire Department medics were in Northern Louisiana Medical Center with a patient they had just brought in, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The stolen ambulance wrecked at mile marker 65.8 on Interstate 20 just before 8 p.m., Trooper Glenn Younger said.
That’s a couple miles west of Arcadia.
No one else was in the ambulance when it wrecked.
The person suspected of stealing the ambulance is a man whom Ruston medics had helped hours earlier, the Fire Department spokesman said.
The man, who reportedly was trying to get to Texas, had wrecked his vehicle about 4 p.m. along I-20 between Ruston and Choudrant.
Louisiana State Police Troop G is investigating the wreck of the stolen ambulance.
Empire State Medi-Cab didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.
