Ambulances are not for joyrides. That’s the message Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said one man will be learning the hard way.

Saturday afternoon, a lookout for a stolen Clayton County EMS ambulance was broadcasted to all agencies. Deputies said it was boosted from Southern Regional Hospital. Immediately, emergency officials began a search to find the life-saving vehicle.

Deputies said it ended up in the parking lot of Southlake Mall on the food court side. A man was seen by deputies hopping out of the ambulance wearing a Clayton County Fire jacket. He was about to go back inside the vehicle when deputies said he spotted them. He ran.

The deputies eventually caught up with Larry Lee Dunlap, who quickly surrendered. Deputies said Dunlap told them he was a firefighter in training.

Dunlap was booked into the Clayton County Jail.
