Fresno, CA (KFSN)-When an ambulance was stolen, a strange theft turned into a real emergency.

Paramedics stopped to eat a bite and then returned to where the vehicle was parked, but it was gone.

An American ambulance called Fresno police around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening and reported the theft from Highway 168 and the McKinley district.

Air support officials helped police officers chase the ambulance a few minutes later, and they began chasing the suspect behind the car.

Police chased the stolen medical vehicle into Clovis and dropped the suspect at a shopping center near Herndon and Fowler.

A thief in his 40s was detained and charged with stealing a vehicle and resisting arrest.
