When a cab wasn’t quick enough, 40-year-old Wanda Luis Rodriguez decided to steal an ambulance parked outside of the IU Health Arnett emergency room, according to prosecutors.

An IU Health Arnett security guard noticed Rodriguez waiting on a cab about 12:05 p.m. Wednesday outside of the hospital emergency room entrance, according to the prosecutors’ probable cause affidavit.

As she waited, she angrily yelled at a person with whom she was having a telephone conversation, according to prosecutor’s probable cause affidavit filedFriday with charges of auto theft and theft.

The guard looked up to see Rodriguez was gone and the ambulance door close, then it started driving away, according to the affidavit.

The guard chased the Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service Ford F-450 about 100 yards before forcing Rodriguez to stop, according to the affidavit. He detained her until police arrived.

The paramedics told police that they parked the ambulance outside the emergency room entrance and noticed Rodriguez sitting nearby when they entered the hospital, according to the affidavit.

Rodriguez, of the 200 block of Main Street in Lafayette, remains incarcerated at the Tippecanoe County Jail in lieu of bond, according to online jail records.
